This visual essay presents Database (E)state, which is an artist and activist-led PhD research project that explores the role of relational databases in processes urban regeneration. The addresses proposed demolition Cressingham Gardens Estate by Lambeth Borough Council, South West London, UK. By depicting problems associated with accessing, comprehending, creating a resident-controlled ‘Shadow Database’ Lambeth’s systems, points to material, ethical, political implications database technologies residents' lives. articulation draws from art practice, philosophical theories derived Gilbert Simondon Michel Foucault, also histories technologies. act Shadow Database, therefore, combines theory, art, activism as means make human technical components more accountable residents.
